Jr.Firebirds win Huronia Tournament
Submitted By Mike Eichler on Sun 10 24, 21
The Jr.Firebirds opened their season with a great tournament win in Collingwood this weekend.

Undefeated through round robin play, the Jr.Birds took game 1 over Guelph in a penalty filled game with a goal in the last minute to take a 2-1 win.  Game 2 was a 3-0 win over TNT Tornadoes.  This put the boys in the driver seat going into Saturday and they put the pedal down winning 5-1 over East Gwillimbury and 4-1 over Niagara on the Lake.

The tournament format put the top seed from each group against each other so the Birds played Sunday afternoon for the gold vs. Collingwood Blues.  The crowd was loud for the home team Blues and they started strong and got out to a 2-0 lead.  Great goaltending and relentless forecheck with lots of big hits set the Birds up for the comeback.  Cohen Christner opened the scoring from the point, and 2 minutes later Ethan Lichti banged in a hot rebound to tie the game up with 12:30 left.  Both team's goalies stopped some great chances in the 3rd to force 5 on 5 OT which solved nothing.....so onto Double OT playing 4 on 4.  More hard work paid off as Barett Wilson scored the winner and the Gold was won!

Congrats to Players and Coaches on a great weekend of hockey!
