Minor Peewees Continue Hot Streak
The last time the New Hamburg Minor Peewee A Huskies suffered a defeat was a 2-1 loss in the semi finals of the Regional Silver Stick tournament in Woodstock on Oct 21 at the hands of the Burlington Bulldogs. Since that game three weeks have lapsed with the Re/Max Twin City Huskies riding a seven game unbeaten streak in Tri County league play.

Remembrance Day will be a day to remember for at least one Huskie player when the Burlington Eagles invaded the Wilmot Recreation Complex looking to halt New Hamburg’s streak. Your proto typical stay at home defenseman Bradley Vitello won’t soon forget Nov 11 as he scored, what would eventually hold up as the game winning marker, his first goal of the season one minute and fifteen seconds into the first period. “I had no one to pass to so I decided to skate with it (the puck),” he said. “I chipped it past the ‘D’ and just shot and it went in,” he added. An elated Huskie team mobbed Vitello after his goal “feels pretty good ‘cause I don’t score many goals and when it went in it was pretty exciting.” He really appreciated the congratulations from his team mates and coaches.

Albeit not the same Burlington team who defeated the Huskies on Oct 21, the well prepared and coached Eagles continued the game with a confident swagger. The game turned into a penalty filled contest with multiple calls over the last two periods on both teams. Some deserved, however many were questionable.

Goaltender Sam Dramnitzke, who quietly earned his third straight shut out and was a titan of the twisted twine, was tested but as characterized by head coach Kory Green, “all the ‘D’ (had a great game). They (Burlington) had a tough time penetrating our zone,” he said. Dramnitzke demonstrated great poise and patience throughout his 19 save performance while Vitello, Kyle Goodhew, Brett Gruber, Koby Seiling and Ryan Vaudry defended the Huskie zone like soldiers.

Luke Egers came close to securing an insurance goal, as he was falling, early in the third frame when he just missed tapping in a rebound after a shot from the point. Green was pleased with his team’s effort although it was the first time this year he elected to shorten up his bench. “We had two key players out” referring to CJ Egli and Griffin Hergott. “And we had some guys not going,” said Green. It was a hard fought win that the coaches hope can be duplicated in the upcoming stretch of four games in five nights beginning Friday in Brampton.
