Midget LL3s Dominate Paris
The Wilhelm Financial Midget Huskies LL3 hosted the Paris Wolfpack on January 24 for their second last regular season game. The Dogs were anxious for a win that would help ensure a top four standing going into the post season that would allow them to compete for the A-pool prize.

Their determination paid early dividends when Damian Naylor bagged the first goal on a feed from Connor Ross with Nathan Gerber helping. The Wolfpack immediately answered on their next line change and tied the contest, sending a strong message to the Husky bench in the process. The Dogs were forced to regroup as they went to the penalty kill after taking back-to-back minors for interference and boarding. Net-minder Liam Saunders kept the worst attacks from succeeding but it was Owen Houle, playing defense, that was the difference maker. Returning to full strength, the Huskies took the play into the offensive zone. The tie-breaker came on a turnover. Mike Glauser picked a top corner from the slot late in the frame to re-establish the lead. It was all Husky in the second as the hosts added two more points in some unrelenting offensive action. Cam Gingerich was taking a beating along the boards and with a delayed penalty being called, he scrambled to his feet, forced a turnover and roofed it to take a two-goal lead. Colin Shannon added another point minutes later when he raced in from the neutral zone on yet another turnover, deked the defender with a toe-drag and put the puck past the goalie. The Paris squad was clearly rattled going into the third and it wouldn’t get easier as the Huskies were hungry for more. Gingerich was again deadly making the most of a scrum and this time getting help from Mike Thrush and Bailey Zehr. Canden Addley added the sixth Husky goal on a breakaway with Shannon taking the assist on the well-placed stretch pass. The merciless onslaught continued as Ross notched another for his team with assists going to Naylor and Gerber. Paris found one last way to score late in the period on a momentary Husky positional breakdown, but the celebration was muted. The Dogs immediately roared back when the visitors were cited for head-contact. Brandon Wagler came up roses on the power play with Thrush and Houle collecting the helpers. It was a commanding 8 – 2 win in spite of the rough play that Paris has been known to bring. The victory will go far in helping the Huskies obtain that top 4 standing but everything now depends on next Saturday’s game. The Huskies need a win at home when they host the Ayr Flames to sew it up so the fans can expect another determined Husky performance.
