Huskies Go 3-0 on Busy Weekend
by team reporter Albert Ross

The Dogs played host to the Arthur Vipers on November 18th and immediately set the pace of the game. After dominating the play through the first period, they finally cracked the game wide open in the second with 4 goals. The magic moment came early in the frame when Jackson Gerber's break out pass found Evan Denison racing up the middle. His upstairs shot found the mark putting the Huskies on the scoresheet. Then it was Trent Smith's opportunity on a turnover to make it a two-goal lead. The machine was really humming and the cycling plays paid off handsomely when Nathan Gerber added his own marker with Jack Normandeau and Tim Geiger riding shotgun.

Closing out the frame was Emmet Latyn on a pass from Dawson Hussey. Ethan Field collects the 2nd assist on the power-play. The Huskies weren't finished and packed in two more markers in the third. Normandeau bagged the fifth goal with Nathan Gerber and Dale Jurica collecting the assists. Nathan Gerber rounded out the scoring for the Dogs getting help from Normandeau and Bailey Zehr. Ty Kumpf, who was solid in net all game, secured the 6 - 0 shut out win when he stoned a two-man breakaway in the dying seconds.

With a solid victory in hand, the Pack travelled to Acton Saturday night to do battle with the Tanners. The game started badly for the pack when Acton notched a goal within the first 20 seconds. Jackson Holmes, after shaking off early misfortune, was instrumental in keeping the Tanners at bay for the rest of the match. The response was swift from Jurica as he tied the contest a minute later getting assistance from Nathan Gerber and Joel Domm on the play. The Dogs were out for blood in the second pulling into the lead with two more goals as the Tanners reeled in the face of the Husky onslaught. Hussey was first away on an unassisted pad rebound followed by another unassisted short-handed screened point shot from Geiger. The momentum was carried into the third in the face of this tough penalty-riddled match. Joel Domm with help from Owen Ross, bagged the fourth Husky point early in the frame on another screened shot. The Husky tally was concluded when Jurica's re-direct hit pay dirt. Geiger and Ross get the assisting credits on the play to take the 5 - 1 win.

The six point weekend wrapped up in Arthur Sunday as the Dogs paid a return visit to the Vipers.  Captain Nathan Gerber staked the visitors to an early1-0 lead as he went bar-down from the slot. Arthur converted a turnover to tie it at 1 before Trent Smith restored the lead on a nifty forehand to backhand move in tight while short-handed.  Evan Denison also converted on a short-handed breakaway for New Hamburg in the second to round out the scoring.  Both teams traded chances in a wide-open third period before the clock ran out on a 3-1 Huskie victory.

The back-to-back-to-back wins are hopefully good omens for the Dogs as they prepare for Silver Stick in Collingwood next weekend.
