Huskies Host Erin Dec. 16
by team reporter Albert Ross

It was all hands on deck for the Re/Max Twin City Peewee AE Huskies as they faced the Erin- Hillsburgh Devils at home on December 16.

The Dogs started slow but the wake-up call came half way through the first frame when Tyler Kumpf made an important save to demonstrate the back end was working well. Ten seconds later, the front end did their own demonstration.  Nathan Gerber forced the zone and fed a tape-to-tape pass to Jack Normandeau anchored in the slot. Normandeau made no mistake to draw first blood. Not content, Normandeau would get his second point on the night moments later on a feed to Alex Smirnow, which he shoveled in to tally. Not to be outdone, the next shift saw Ethan Field setting up Emmet Laytn who would add his own marker on the night.  The slowdown came when the dogs were called for interference and a too-many-men penalty to leave them severely short-handed as the period wound down. Penalty killers Bailey Zehr and Owen Ross were giving no quarter and helped keep their team out front going into the second. Both squads were keeping the referees busy in the first half of the second frame but the Dogs looked sharper both on the penalty kills and the power plays. Dawson Hussey came close to scoring on a dash up the middle but it would be Nathan Gerber’s pass to Zehr on the point that hit home next. His shot along the deck was screened and upped the ante going into the third. Hussey got his chance early in the period when Laytn made good on a turnover and fed Hussey, who’s backhand was unbeatable. A head-shot call against the Pack allowed the Devils their only scoring opportunity but it was too little too late to stem the Husky tide. With Kumpf re-asserting his prowess in net, the Huskies finished the contest on a short-handed drive. Dale Jurica got the puck to Evan Denison who dangled his way up ice and roofed it to take the very convincing 6 – 1 win.  The team-work effort will serve the boys well as they prepare for the upcoming International Silver Stick set to go in early January.
