Minor PeeweeHuskies Start Season With a Win
The 2014-2015 New Hamburg Huskies Minor Peewee A team kicked off the regular season with a 3-0 win over the Halton Hills Thunder on Tuesday night at the Wilmot Rec Centre.

With the Huskies on the power play at the end of the first period, New Hamburg scored with just 2.1 seconds remaining. Evan Green got credit for the goal off a Cody Klaassen shot from the point.

The next two periods saw back and forth action with strong defensive zone play for New Hamburg. Sam Thorne was a force in both ends, winning puck battles and creating offensive zone chances.

Special teams played a big role in the win as the Huskies successfully killed off two long 5-on-3 power play opportunities for Halton Hills; credit goes to all the penalty killers on the Huskies squad.

The game would stay 1-0 until the final minute of play when New Hamburg added two empty net goals -- one from Hunter Mitchell and one from Griffin Smith -- to seal the victory and the shutout for netminder Tyler Clement.

New Hamburg's next game is Sunday, Sept . 28 on the road against the Caledon Hawks followed by a Monday night game against the Gryphons in Guelph.
