Kingston Champs!
It is a well-documented historical fact that the military installation – outside of what is now Kingston Ontario – was never attacked during the war of 1812. Precisely 200 years later the New Hamburg Novice A Huskies led a charge on the 2012 Kingston Canadians Hockey Tournament.

This past weekend the boys terrorized opposition net-minders at rinks throughout Kingston. They started their barrage on Friday, October 19th by defeating rivals from Port Perry and Newmarket. These two games featured a balanced attack, solid defence and steady goaltending en route to two opening day wins. On Saturday, the competition was even stiffer but the boys were up to the challenge. Sparked by a tremendous defensive effort and relentless back-checking the boys defeated Cumberland and Innisfil by scores of 5-0 and 2-1 respectively. Having swept the first two days, “General” Ertel and the coaching staff led the boys to the Sunday playoff rounds. The opposing forces proved even stronger but once again, our Husky troops rose to the occasion. In the semi-final the boys took on Osgoode Rideau. Both teams battled bravely to a 0-0 draw through regulation and five minutes of overtime. This set the stage for Husky heroics. Owen Bruder scored the first shoot-out goal and that’s all the Huskies needed as Jacob Durrer steered aside all three Osgoode shooters. In the final, the boys once again fought through regulation and overtime. As in the semi-final, just one shoot-out goal by Owen Bruder would be enough. Jacob Durrer was perfect on three shooters and the Huskies were victorious. Although not pinned to their chest, the Huskies received medals for their efforts and retreated back to New Hamburg! Congratulations Novice A Huskies, 2012 Kingston Canadians Tournament Champions!
