OMHA AE2 Finalists
As the westernmost Tri-County team the Huskies began their OMHA journey travelling to Chatham to tangle with the Kent County Tek Savvy Cobras. The outcome of the this series was never in doubt as the Huskies prevailed in 3 straight games by scores of 6-2, 6-1, 5-1. Next up in the Quarter-Finals were the Merritton Bulldogs who put up a great effort in game 3 but it was too little too late as they also were eliminated in 3 straight by scores of 5-2, 7-0, and 3-2.
This victory brought the Huskies to their next challenge, a strong Milton team that had beat the Huskies convincingly in league play and finished several rungs higher than them in the regular season. The Huskies struck first on home ice with a 4-3 win before suffering injuries and suspensions and falling 5-2 in game 2. However, the boys bounced back with 2 strong games winning 4-1 and 3-1 to advance to finals against the Barrie Colts.
Barrie had not lost a game to another AE2 team all season and had a previous OMHA championship under the belt from the PeeWee division. New Hamburg jumped out to a 4-1 lead in game 1 that ended in a 4-4 tie. The next 2 games were decided by a lone goal (1-0 and 3-2) before the Colts put the finishing touches on the series with a 3-1 win in game 4.
The team was proud to be the last New Hamburg squad still playing in the OMHA playdowns and to earn an OMHA Finalists banner.
