Woes of Woolwich Continue
Woolwich hosted its annual Woolwich Wildcats Weekend and your LL2 Huskies were there to take part in their first tournament of the season. Although several boys had not had any tournament experience, hockey is hockey and we were going to take on the games head on with our regular work ethic.

The team was a little scattered in the first game, falling out of our game plan and running around out of position. We had a reset chat after period one and got back to work. The team also had the first experience of falling behind on the scoreboard 2-0 but kept very calm and did the work, pulling even and luckily for the opposition, we ran out of time and settled for a tie.
Game 2 was a challenge as well. Our team has not faced many really talented teams so far this year, but this Thornton team was a large, physical and high pressure team which our guys proudly matched for the entire game, elevating their play and giving credit to the philosophy that better teams can make you play your best. This, in the Staff's opinion was the best our team has played so far all year and although we lost, we were quite happy with the performance of all players. Josh Carey played very gritty and tough against players twice his size especially in this game and solidly all weekend taking the TCB Jacket for the week.
Woolwich Wildcats LL2 continued to frustrate us as in game 3 we had good puck possession and all efforts were up to snuff, they just have a way of keeping us from getting good chances around their net and in their zone. They did it on the Thanksgiving weekend and repeated the tactic of not letting us roam free much in their end. We needed a win with a bunch of goals to continue but it just wasn't happening Saturday afternoon. I was approached by several parents of the Wildcat team and got great feedback from them about our boys and although I'm not one who likes to blame the refereeing, there was lots of agreement that it wasn't up to the standard we expect and even had somewhat of an apology from the tournament organizers about the fact that it had affected the outcome of our game as it never should be the case.
We will regroup, refocus and be looking forward to our game Wednesday in Tavistock.
