Short Bench Saturday
In a game when everybody knows everybody, that can be the best motivator. We were "home" to LL3 Huskies Saturday and kids had been talking to each other leading up the game in school and on their streets at home.
No real bad blood, just playing guys you see every day and want to beat them more than anyone. With a jolt of a first shift goal, we were stunned and had to have a quick bench chat where players were reminded the game had actually started and it was time to play. No problems after that, we played a very solid, smart game after that while having good puck possession and very good execution of forechecking and shutting down plays as they developed in the neutral zone. Everything came together and even holding off LL3 with the extra attacker in the final minute that left more kids laying on the ice than standing, Mason and the gang kept the biscuit out of the basket. Devon was our TCB jacket guy, playing really tough and aggressively against boys 2.8 times his size and either keeping the puck in the offensive end, or taking it away at center and reversing the play to an offensive chance. Good Job all! We have a two-banger next weekend on the road with stops in Embro and Woolwich.
