Huskies Maintain Strong Play
by team reporter Albert Ross
The Re/Max Twin City Peewee AE Huskies had a busy but profitable week since their return from winning the Regional Silver Stick tournament in Collingwood. They registered a 3 – 1 win against the Erin-Hillsburgh Devils on Thursday December 1 on the road followed by another victory at home the following night. The Dogs played host to the Acton Tanners Friday December 2 in what became a very physical game with both sides incurring game suspension penalties.
The Pack came out strong blanking the opposition 3 – 0 by the end of the first frame. Jack Normandeau picked up a pad rebound from Alex Smirnow and potted the first point with only a minute of play elapsed. He’d pull the trigger in the slot a minute later getting help from Bailey Zehr and Smirnow. Emmet Latyn added his own marker late in the period with Dawson Hussey and Smirnow getting the assist credits.
A frustrated Acton team lost a player early in the second on a hit-from-behind call that started the parade to the penalty box for both teams. Normandeau working in tandem with Evan Denison, tallied in an ensuing scrum to secure a hat trick on the night. Hussey incurred a head-shot call, that will see the Dogs short-handed for the next 3 games, in a match that was becoming obviously testy. Acton was clearly frustrated and could not defeat the Husky net-minder, Colton Holba who was filling in the Huskies regular goalie that night. The Dogs bagged two more points in the third when Trent Smith’s end-to-end rush hit pay dirt. Acton would lose another player to a hit-from-behind call before Smith finished the scoring on a power play. Smirnow got his third assist on the night that gave the Huskies a decisive 6 – 0 shut out win.
The Pack will travel to Elora on Sunday to do battle with the Fusion and hopefully keep the winning streak alive.
