John Bear Bantam AE Huskies   vs Acton Tanners 27-Sep-2011

After suffering a 4-3 loss in Ancaster on Sunday September 25, the John Bear Bantam AE Huskies were looking for a little redemption on Tuesday night. The Dogs were playing host to the Acton Tanners in their season home-opener and they hit the ice with determination. This newly minted team looked like old hands as they immediately took to the offensive and had notched the first point in less than two minutes. Danny Martin pulled the trigger on a feed from Marcus Roth to draw first blood. The lads looked sharp and with the Tanners on their heels, the second bite was delivered late in the frame. This time it was Taylor Von Hausen winning a scrum in front of the opposition net that advanced the score. This time it was answered as Acton potted one to close the period. Confidence was still high as the Huskies opened the second frame on another offensive drive. Some nice cycling along the boards by Connor Popham allowed team mate Filip Telescu to pick up the puck and wing it to Matt Schmidt who was strategically positioned in the slot. He made no mistake and immediately top-cornered it retake a 2-goal lead. Acton struggled through much of the frame, fending off repeated Husky attacks but managed to draw within one late in the frame. Then the Husky defence solidified. Net Minder Matt Santos denied further Tanner efforts and the defensive squad breakout plays began to take their toll on the visitors. The final Husky point came late in the period When Popham beat the goalie on feed from Schmidt. It was a convincing 4-2 win that bodes well for the Huskies as the season gets under way. We wish them luck.
