Tuesday night October 11 saw the John Bear Bantam AE Huskies looking for another win at home as they hosted the Woolwich Wildcats. They knew this team was going to be a tough customer but the Dogs can give as well as they get. Proving the point was team captain Brady Finn hammering home a pad rebound from Austin Dale within 3 minutes of the opening face-off. The opposition wasn't able to answer until late in the frame on a drive that succeeded. They popped another in early in the second before the Dogs dug in their heels. Both sides took penalties during the trench-warfare-like play that characterized the second period. Penalty-killers Josh Jewitt, Robbie Mason, Jayden Marion, Alex Normandeau, Mikey Glauser and Connor Ross made the Wildcat forwards pay dearly as they crossed into the Husky defensive zone. Net-minder Tanner Green was instrumental in foiling the Wildcats best efforts as he kept the door shut, buying time for his team to find a way to win. The efforts paid off in the third frame when a screened shot from Marion found the mark to tie the match. The Huskies were on full throttle offence at the mid-mark and the pressure was telling on the visitors. A tripping call on the Wildcats was all the Dogs needed to seal the deal. Some nice puck cycling in the forward zone saw Ross ripping one in from the blue-line. The resulting rebound was swatted in simultaneously by Dale and Filip Telescu to take the lead on the power-play effort. Woolwich would not recover and the Huskies secured the 3 - 2 win, their 5th straight victory. Nice work Huskies!
