John Bear Bantam AE Huskies

vs Dundas Blues 13-Nov-2011

The John Bear Bantam AE Huskies had a busy and profitable week downing first the Ancaster Avalanche in a 2 - 0 decision at home on Tuesday November 8 followed by another solid victory in Dundas Sunday night. The Huskies were at an immediate disadvantage in their contest against the Blues as they were cited for a delay of game penalty before the puck even dropped. Tanner Green was between the pipes for the Dogs and his skill coupled with the Husky penalty killers, kept the opposition at bay. Connor Popham was getting the job done by tying up the puck along the boards, burning up those penalty seconds. The match was a scoreless draw heading into the second frame but all that changed when Brady Finn stole a puck at mid-ice and raced in all alone to defeat the Blues net-minder with a backhand deke. The game see-sawed back and forth with both sides incurring penalties and getting chances. Green stood his ground on a nice poke-check play as the momentum shifted to the Huskies once again. A clean breakout pass by Connor Ross to Filip Telescu resulted in a hair-raising end-to-end rush that hit pay dirt in a short-handed effort. The boys were firing on all cylinders going into the third and it was Telescu on a backhand that upped the ante early with help from line-mate Marcus Roth. The puck cycling plays were taking their toll on the Blues as they incurred more than their share of interference calls. The Husky efforts paid off when Popham redirected Alex Normandeau's rocket from the point to take a commanding lead. It looked as though the Dogs might secure a shut-out but an unlucky scramble saw the Blues pot their only point with only seconds remaining. It was still a comfortable 4 - 1 win that the Huskies hope to repeat next week as they face the Centre Wellington Vipers on Tuesday at home. The Huskies would also like to extend their sincere thanks to Sobeys for supporting them in their successful fund-raising efforts this last weekend. It was great to see so much support for the team and rest assured the Huskies will do their best to   bring home the big prizes again this year.
