The John Bear Bantam AE Huskies are learning that the competition never sleeps. Although they pocketed two more regular season victories this week, they had to work hard for them against teams that they previously bested with ease. The Dogs played host to the Acton Tanners on Monday November 30 in what became a very physical game. The contest started slow but it didn’t stay that way as both teams sought scoring chances. The Huskies drew first blood when Robbie Mason initiated a tic-tac-toe play. His feed to Danny Martin was good and the subsequent pass into the slot was all Matt Schmidt needed to blow the rigging out. The opposition answered late in the frame to tie the contest but the Huskies were not done. Within moments of the puck drop in the second, Nolan Forster pounded one off the goalie pads that Filip Telescu stuffed in to retake the lead. Then character of the game changed with both sides incurring penalties, many of them head-shot calls. The visitors had difficulty mounting a concerted offense and the few chances they had were easily smothered by net-minder Tanner Green. The score remained 2 – 1 for the Huskies after three, solidifying a perfect 4-win record against the Tanners this season.

Friday saw the Dogs in Dundas facing the Blues in a very hotly contested match. It was fast end-to-end action in the first frame but neither side found the net. The same result occurred in the second but the character of the game changed as both sides became more physical and penalties were levied. Matt Santos was backstopping the Pack and was tested for the first time as the Blues forced the zone. But the Huskies can give as good as they get. Brady Finn’s end-to-end sprint at the opening of the third frame, hit pay dirt when a Blues defender misplayed the puck, and scored on his own net. Some questionable penalty calls against the Dogs saw the Blues pressing hard but Santos was on his game. Alex Normandeau, Mike Glauser, Jayden Marion and Josh Jewitt, demonstrated superb penalty-killing skills and were instrumental in helping secure the 1 – 0 shutout win. Nice work Huskies!
