OMHA Round Robin Continues
(by team reporter Albert Ross)

The Canadian Legion Major Peewee A Huskies had a busy week chalking up a pair of play-down wins on the road. January 17 saw the Dogs in Georgetown facing off against the Raiders in a tough, physical contest. The opposition caught the Huskies flat-footed and bottled them up in their own end for much of the first frame. Net-minder Colton Holba was on his game and was key to keeping the match scoreless.

He would exit the game halfway through the second after a Georgetown player ran him with no call on the play. The mood on the Husky bench changed for good when a Husky defenseman was levied 3 games on a weak hit. The Dogs, with a man short, drove with purpose into the offensive zone and a rocket from Beach found the mark through the 5-hole. The tough physical play continued into the third and stand-in goalie Jackson Holmes proved as good as his predecessor. The Huskies secured the insurance marker late in the third on a power-play. Lucas Bast, getting a feed from Beach, unleashed a salvo from the blue line that bounced off the goalie pads. Greg Yeoman made no mistake on the rebound and concluded the 2 – 0 shutout win. Beach garnered the TLC Pet Food player-of-the-game for his offensive leadership but the Dogs knew they had to play better in St. Jacobs Saturday night. The Woolwich Wildcats are a team that will steal your thunder given the chance but the Huskies safe was securely locked. The puck had no sooner dropped than the Pack tore into the offensive zone pocketing a goal with 15 seconds gone. Sam Miller was the garbage man in front doing the damage with Yeoman and Jackson Gerber helping. The game continued with a ferocity that intensified right to the final whistle. Holmes was once again backstopping the Huskies and he proved his mettle through the first, keeping his team in front. Beach doubled the tally early in the second on scrum with Yeoman and Miller accruing the assists. The Wildcats roared back on a power-play, drawing within one, when the Dogs were cited for interference. The play sea-sawed back to the Huskies as they added two more points to close the period. Beach fed Miller who blasted one in from the point. The rebound was scooped by Yeoman and pounded in to raise the stakes. Then it was the Evan Denison, Josh Blier duo working hard to create chances that paid off. Blier’s centering pass was drilled through the 5-hole by Jackson Normandeau to solidify the 3-goal lead on the power-play. It was trench warfare in the third that saw the Wildcats steal another goal early, but it would be their last. The Huskies were giving no quarter but Woolwich was not backing down. Holmes concluded the 4 – 2 win when he absolutely stoned a desperate breakaway with less than a minute remaining. While many could easily be awarded the TLC Pet Food player-of-the-game, Yeoman gets it for his grinding tenacity throughout the match. With 5 points in hand, the Huskies will again face Georgetown at home on January 24 where they hope to add another 2 points.
