A Strong Start For Husky LL2s
The New Hamburg Huskies Midget LL2s are off to a great start in regular season play. They won their home opener against the Plattsville Rage in a 6 – 0 contest on October 10 followed by 7 – 0 road victory in Ayr on October 19. Three was a charm for the Pack when they hosted the Beverly Bandits LL2 on October 24 in what was a close contest.

The Huskies hit the ice running and established an early lead on a rush to the offensive zone. Tyler Kumpf skated in deep and hit line mate Connor Ross who then circled the net and put a shot off the Bandit net-minder pads. Kumpf scooped the rebound and finished the job to open the scoring. The Huskies never let up as they went to the power play and continued the pressure as even strength returned. The second goal came on a delayed Bandit tripping call as Rhett Miller fed Kumpf who made no mistake on the play. The visitors shook it off and added some pressure of their own as the first frame died away. A Husky defensive zone breakdown saw the Bandits get one on the scoreboard to make it a one-goal game going into the second. The frame was defined by end-to-end plays with hard skating and fore-checking. Brandon Wagler led the grinding example that kept the Bandits from getting set up. Owen Ross and Austin Hartman were making life hard for the Bandit forwards, breaking up 2 on 1 rushes and guarding the net with authority. Colton Holba was doing sterling service between the pipes, registering a key save as the period came to a close. He’d be called on again in the third to deliver 2 more important saves to keep his team in front. With the back end working well, the Huskies rebounded in the final frame and re-established the offensive drive. The intensity ratcheted up a notch and the rough play followed suit. Both sides were taking penalties but the Dogs were clearly giving better than they got. Chances followed with Kumpf and Ross tag-teaming and coming close on a late drive to the net. The Bandits, in desperation pulled their goalie but the gambit backfired. A neutral zone turnover saw Ross fire in an empty-netter to seal the 3 – 1 victory and establish the Huskies LL2 as a force to be reckoned with. They hope to continue the success story when they host the Paris Wolfpack on October 31.
