Midget LLs Notch First Play Off Win
The New Hamburg Huskies Midget LL2s returned from Beverly on January 23 after a game where everything went wrong. It was a tough 4 – 0 loss to the Bandit LL1s that inspired the Huskies to do better in their second playoff game the following night. They faced their brethren team, the Midget LL3s and this time everything went right!

Colton Holba was tested early in net, but his glove was working well, allowing his team to slowly take control of the frame. The opener came at the 6-minute mark when Connor Ross went end to end with Cole Hutchison in tow. His shot went off the pads and Hutchison slammed in the rebound to set the stage for the rest of the game. With momentum on their side, the LL2s wasted no time in upping the ante early in the second frame. Connor Ross was again crashing the net with Brandon Wagler tagging along and getting the second rebound goal before a minute had elapsed. Working together, they tag-teamed on the next goal with the exact same result. Ross was on fire and would pot another goal before the period ended. Hard work down low by Mike Thrush and his hand off to Ross resulted in the fourth LL2 point when it was backhanded into the top corner. Play had hardly got under way when Ross put another point on the board. Colin Shannon’s bullet from the point was tipped in to give the LL2’s 5 unanswered goals. That ended when the LL3s made good on a 2 on 1 play a minute later. They struck again at the 8-minute mark but it was to be their last gasp as the LL2’s doubled down on defense and stymied further efforts. Moments later Ross notched a hat trick getting support from Mason Wagner and Owen Ross. The finisher came from the stick of Shannon as he rushed the net getting help from Thrush and Connor Ross, who rounded out a tremendous 7-point night in a 7 – 2 route of the LL3s. It was an all-hands-on-deck win for the LL2s who hope to take that experience with them when they face the Beverly Bandit LL2s on February 5th
