Atom AE Huskies going to the finals
The Atom AE Huskies played the Caledonia Thunder in the Southern Counties semi final on Wednesday March 21 at 6:30pm in Caledonia.  The winner books a spot in the league finals, and the other team heads to the golf course.

In their two previous playoff games, Caledonia and New Hamburg tied 3-3 and 3-3.  The rubber match would settle the score for one team, leaving the other heart broken.

Right from the first face-off the Huskies jumped on the Thunder.  The scoring was opened 20 seconds into the game with a blast from the point by Ryan Kuntz with an assist going to Lucas Fortin, the Thunder goalie had no chance as the traffic in front of him blocked his view.  As the first period moved along the Huskies continued the pressure.  The scoring continues with Breckan Carnegie forechecking like a madman and wrestling the puck from the Caledonia defender, Tate Ehgoetz found it behind the net and fed it to Travis Ernst in the slot, Travis buried it in the back of the net to make it 2-0.

The second period started with a hungry Caledonia team putting the pressure on the Huskies.  The puck was in the Huskies end for much of the period.  The line of Dylan O'Connell, Cohen Cox, and Cole Boulton did an fantastic job as the "checking" line and shut down the top Thunder players at every turn.  Travis Ernst potted his 2nd of the game with a sweet pass from Jordan Snyder with help from Sam Asselstine, 3-0 Huskies.  A couple of minutes later Ethan St. Clair was a machine in the corner and out worked everyone to free the puck, Tate Ehgoetz was in the right place at the right time, once again he fed the puck to the front of the net with Chace Hoffman redirecting it 5 hole on the goalie to give New Hamburg a 4-0 lead.

The third period brought an onslaught of shots from the Thunder forwards.  The Huskies hunkered down and withstood the storm and found the back of the net when Travis Ernst completed the hat-trick with help from Tate Ehgoetz and Chace Hoffman.

The defensive play of Maxim Coombs, Cameron Fletcher and Luca Gerardi was stellar in a penalty free game which saw them shut down their opponents at will.  Their solid defending helped goaltender Carter Girodat post a shut out in what is sure to be a jewel in the crown of this mighty 'tender.  Carter's focus and work ethic lead his team to an unprecedented victory, as this will be most of these players first championship game they have ever been to.

Goaltender Noah Lichti will lead the Huskies into the Championship game on Saturday March 24th at 10:30am in Cayuga.  The Huskies will face another weather system in the Tillsonburg Tornadoes, lets see if the boys can batten down the hatches and emerge victorious.
