Woolwhich Novice Cup Challenge
Home Hardware Novice LL1 headed up the highway this weekend to take part in their first tournament of the year.  Everyone was excited to see some new competition.

Game one was a thrilling affair vs. Woolwhich #1 that was still tied at 0 at the end of regulation and after a 5 minute, 4 on 4 overtime.  So up next was a shootout.  The first two NH shooters were Ethan and Sam and they were both able to finally solve the oppostions goalie.  Deklan "the wall" Jermol stopped the first two Woolwhich shooters to seal the victory for the team and secure the Hard Hat for himself.  Logan played his best game of the season and won many one on one battles, getting the puck out of our end.  Shaun was a rock on defence and carried the puck out of our zone many times too.

With the victory, the Huskies advanced to the 'A' Pool for the tourny and now had to face Woolwhich #2.  This was another close, tight checking affair and both goalies made many amazing saves.  Casey and Kohen were working the boards hard all game long and moving the puck up the ice into the Woolwhich zone.  Jesse was the star on Defence for this game as he fearlessly chased down opposing attackers and kept the puck away from the danger zone in front of our net.  Woolwhich finally broke the scoring deadlock early in the 3rd, but Ethan tied the game right back up just a few seconds later.  Woolwhich kept coming at the Huskies but Zack was always parked at the blue line and was able to use his 'strong stick' to just poke the puck away from the rushing forwards.  With just over two minutes to play, Woolwhich did finally sneak one past the goal line, and no doubt they figured that was the game winner.  But hold on.....the Huskies had no quit in them this day!  Right of the face off, Ryan battled for the puck off the scrambled draw and got the play moving into the Woolwhich end.  Just 20 seconds after falling behind, Ethan snuck one past the Woolwhich goalie to tie the game at 2.  The Huskies ended the game with a flurry of chances but could not get that elusive game winning goal.  Ethan walked out of the dressing room with the Hard Hat and into Boston Pizza with it as the team enjoyed a well deserved pizza party!

So game #3 on Sunday morning would be a must win to get the Huskies into the finals.  Once again they were matched up against a Woolwhich squad.  Woolwhich #3 is a fast skating club and they came right at the Huskies with many chances.  This game Carson was the tower of power on defence and earned himself a date with the Hard Hat as he kept the Woolwhich attack to the outside and would then calmly carry the puck back out of his zone.  Unfortunately though the Woolwhich attack became too much for the Huskies to handle on this day and a trip to the finals was not in the cards.

But the boys played their best hockey of the season and will be looking to continue that caliber of play when they resume their regular season schedule next week in New Hamburg.
Great job boys.
