The New Hamburg Oak Grove Minor Atom Rep team secured a league victory September 27th over the Dundas Blues by showing them a lot of red.
he goal light was on for the Huskies first when Cody Klaassen scored with
a pass from Hunter Mitchell. Huskies defence was strong in the corners feeding
our wingers breakout passes. This enabled Owen Lowry to feed Griffin Smith for
a Huskie short-handed goal. The Blue's pushed hard in the second period netting
two unanswered goals before Jack Wheeler got a turnover and nailed another one
home. But the Blue's netted a third. The Huskie's coaching staff fed the dogs a
good speech at the end of the second period resulting in another three goals in
the third from Mitchell (2) and Kyle Barr with assists going to Sam Thorne, Lowry,
and Austin Lee-Barker.
October 4th saw the Georgetown Raiders invade the Huskie
den with conquering visions in mind. Too bad the Huskies smelled a different
scenario. Lowry and Matt Eddy held the blueline in the Raider's zone but the
hard working efforts of Wheeler, Cody Cowell and Joey Gibson were stopped by a
strong Raiders defence and netminder. The Raiders' relentless charges against
Tyler Clements finally broke through and they earned their first goal in the
bottom of the second period. Both teams continued the battle in the third with
the first Huskie bite from Klassen ripping into the Raiders' net to tie the
game 1-1. Assists went to Lowry and Wheeler. Defensive play from Evan Green and
Aaron Bell kept the Huskie territory safe. Klaassen secured the go-ahead goal
with assists to Mitchell and Austin-Lee. The Raiders pulled their goalie in the
bottom of the third, adding an additional soldier to the final battle.
Klaassen' s pass to Mitchell who shot on the Raiders empty net was blocked with
a mad scramble ensuing. Smith's quick response, however, drilled the puck for
the final goal. Huskies 3, Raiders 1. The Huskies are
3-0 in league play to date.
