The Huskies chose the quick change, hard skating approach. Quick results occurred when Ethan Fields' breakaway rush exited the Huskie zone to crush the Vipers net with a quick low stick side shot beating the goalie. Defensive play from Ryan Pierson and Dale Jurica was tactical and thoughtful in play setting. Tyler Jackman was solid in net easily smothering any shots. Scott Carey's pass for Josh Potts backhand shot in Vipers territory was tapped in by Tyson Wagler. First period play ended with Nick Egli and Emmet Latyn working wonders in the Vipers corners while Sam Herrle and Brandon Ropp kept driving the lanes.
