"The waiting is the hardest part." - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
It has been six long months since these 7 and 8 year old boys wore the blue and yellow. For 15 anxious kids, the puck finally dropped again on Friday. When it did, the Novice As demonstrated that they were ready for it.
This past weekend the Huskies travelled to Essex to take part in the 36th
Annual Early Bird Tournament. After dropping a 2-1 decision to Tecumseh in
the opener, the Huskies rallied with 3 consecutive victories over Kent,
Amherstburg and host, Essex. These three victories featured a determined
effort by the Huskies who battled extremely hard.
The Huskies' round robin success set up a berth in the Sunday playoff
round. On Sunday morning, the Huskies stepped-up there game. Relentless
back-checking, solid defence and steady goaltending afforded the Huskies a
2-0 victory vs. Riverside and a trip to the final.
The final against Belle River was a very tight-checking affair. Although
out-chancing their opponents, the Huskies were unable to solve the Belle
River goaltender through three periods, overtime and 4 shoot-out shooters.
When the Canadiens' fourth shooter scored, the Huskies' fate was sealed.
There were many encouraging signs for this Novice A team: most importantly,
they showed progressive improvement throughout the tournament. It was the
first opportunity for this Husky family to come together for a weekend.
Besides the result on the ice, the weekend featured team building, lots of
laughs, and 2 skills competition champions.
The good news for these Huskies is that waiting will no longer be an issue.
They will be right back on the ice for their home opener on Monday, September 23rd.
Congratulations Novice A Huskies! Best of luck for a successful season.
