Huskies Battle Vipers to Stalemate
The EJ’s Husky AE hosted the Arthur Vipers on November 29 in what became a clash of wills. The Huskies took to the ice with confidence but their opponent was equally determined and so the stage was set for an exciting match.

The Vipers were quick on the draw and nearly tallied on a shot that ricocheted off the cross bar but the Dogs rebounded and were first on the score sheet when the play moved into the offensive zone. A scrum ensued in front of the Viper net-minder and a pad rebound from Josh Potts was swatted in by Nic Egli to get things rolling. Their opponent was resilient and answered on their own drive on the next shift to cancel the Husky lead. The fast paced action continued in the second with Owen Ross and Joel Domm doing sterling service on the blue line but it was the Vipers that took the lead on some solid team play that the Pack quickly emulated. The Huskies drew even 20 seconds later when Alex Kyle secured the puck behind the opposition net and made good on the wrap-around that banked off the Viper goalie. It was fast and furious action but the Dogs were soon on their heels on back-to-back penalties. The Viper forwards made the most of the 5 on 3 advantage and scored on the power play to once again, re-establish their lead. It wouldn’t get easier in the third when the Dogs were once again cited for boarding but Sam Cull held his ground in net giving his team a chance to return to the offensive. The opening came when the Huskies got their own power play going when the visitors went to the box on a hit-from-behind call. The cycling plays were wearing down the opposition and some blistering point shots from Emmet Latyn and Dale Jurica underscored the resolve. Then the magic moment happened. Ross cycled the puck to Domm who blasted it at the Viper goalie from the blue line. Potts scooped the rebound and fed it to Ryan Pierson who in turn fed Mason Wagner. Wagner’s flip up rolled off the goalie into the net to tie the contest once more. The game tempo increased in the final minutes with both sides taking penalties. The last gasp came from Ethan Field on a short-handed drive but the score remained 3 – 3 at the buzzer. The Huskies hope to take the solid work ethic to Dundas on December 1 to meet the Blues and return victorious.
