Huskies Edge Out Arthur In Tight Contest
Bad winter weather could not keep the EJ’s Husky AE from travelling to Arthur on December 15. The Dogs were looking for that elusive win against the Vipers and this would be their last shot at it this season.

As fate would have it, things started badly for the Pack when a puck fired along the deck deflected off a skate giving the Husky net-minder no chance on the play. But the Dogs were hungry and their determined team play soon had their opposition on the ropes. The offensive zone cycling plays hit pay dirt when Ethan Field, working hard down low, fed the puck to Emmet Latyn on point. He in turn fed fellow defenseman Dale Jurica who teed it up at the blue line and retied the contest. It was all Husky after that. Nick Dumais was instrumental in setting up Matt Morrissey on a beautiful centering pass into the slot. Morrissey made no mistake and swatted in the tie-breaker. The Huskies continued to control the play going into the second period and it was clear that the Vipers were losing their discipline. A head-shot call against Arthur was the opening the Dogs needed to advance their total. Dumais was again the play-maker as he put one off the pads of the Viper goalie while Morrissey was again the point maker. For the second time that night, Morrissey put the puck by the Viper goalie to grab the insurance marker on the power play. The Vipers lost all semblance of discipline at that juncture and paraded one after the other to the penalty box while the Huskies enacted an almost continuous power play assault. In spite of some heavy offensive pressure the Dogs were unable to crack the Viper goalie who was working frantically in net. That pressure would continue in the third frame with a blistering attack from Danny Farrish that nearly succeeded but the Vipers held firm. The momentum shifted when the Huskies were cited for tripping allowing the home team to advance the score on the power play. Husky net-minder Jaiden Deneka got down to business as the Vipers regained the initiative and began forcing the Huskies onto the defensive. Two big pad saves followed by a smothering cover-up on the goal line was the wake-up call the Dogs needed to renew the defensive efforts. Joel Domm and Owen Ross were working hard to deflect the worst Viper attacks and with the clock winding down, the Huskies were soon facing 6 attackers and an empty Viper net. The gambit failed and the Huskies secured the 3 – 2 win when the buzzer ended the match. The win will hopefully instill confidence as the Huskies prepare to meet the Ancaster Avalanche on December 16.
