Battle With the Bandits!
The boys played a hard fought game against their rivals the Beverly Bandits on Saturday and were just able to hang on for a tie. The Huskies cam out a little slow in the first, maybe a result of too much Halloween candy the night before. They got caught chasing the puck early in the first in their own end, (is this a pattern?), and Beverly capitalized to open the scoring.

Beverly kept up the attack with good forechecking, but Dominik made a series of great saves to keep it a one goal game. With four minutes remaining in the period the Huskies showed signs of life with Chazen ringing the post. Another great save by our netminder kept the score to one. Chazen got hauled down in front of the Beverly net to give the boys a power play. Unfortunately, the boys were trying to do it on their own and didn't capitalize on the excellent passing game they have shown us in the past.
New Hamburg took its first of many penalties early in the second, but Dominik kept the Huskies in the game. Chazen tied the game on a sweet goal. Joey made a break and put the boys up 2-1. Beverly's #13 showed her great skating skills and ripped a shot on net, but Dominik flashed the leather again to deny her the goal. Kai stepped between the pipes late in the second and made some great saves but a hard shot got by him on his glove side to tie the game.
Beverly kept coming in the third and they capitalized on two back to back Husky penalties to take a 4-2 lead. Kai did an excellent job challenging several shooters on breakaways. The Huskies were unable to put the puck on net and were down 2 goals with 2 minutes to go. Kai went to the bench with just over a minute and Drew was able to take a feed from Simon, blaze down the ice and bury the puck in the net. The boys went to work with less than 40 seconds to go. Drew won a face-off, stepped to his left and was able to bury the equalizer with 13 seconds to go!
The Huskies showed some great depth in the last few minutes of the game, in spite of having one of their players ejected from the game. The boys need to play a more disciplined game and stay out of the penalty box if they want to get back in the win column. Its hard to win games when you are shorthanded for 8 minutes a game! Go Huskies Go!
