Huskies Drop First Inter-Divisional Battle
The LL1 Huskies returned to the ice Saturday looking to get back in the "W" column after dropping a game to the visiting Woolwich Wildcats. The boys were definately eager to match up to friends, classmates and neighbours in the first divisional game against another Huskies squad.
Early in the first period, Nolan K found the back the LL3 net and our team was boosted with lead to build on. The LL3 team however, found motivation from the goal and we had a real game going. the LL3's scored soon after to tie the game at one after the first period. The second frame saw our team lose a bit of steam and the LL3 squad start to press us. We found ourselves running around chasing the puck somewhat and individuals trying to take on the task of evening the score and this would be our undoing as although the effort of the individuals was strong, we broke down as a unit and we ended up in scramble mode with positional breakdown as well. The trend cost us two more goals and continued throughout the start to mid third before the boys were able to regroup and create some good chances by smart positioning in the offensive zone. Nolan again beat the LL3 goalie after he stoned us on several good chances built on much better team play. in the end we ran out of time with another curfew call and came up a little short (even with our special 7 on 5 play). The staff feel we outplayed the other team in the third period overall and finished with good momentum. We will regroup and have a mandate for better team play and motivation to "own the puck" in future battles. Back to the drawing board Friday morning...
