Huskies Overcome The Stars In St. Clements
It
was an important game for the Midget Huskies LL2 and they needed their A-game
to assure a win in St. Clements on January 31. With the post season looming,
the Dogs were looking to cement a top four standing by dealing their hosts, the
Twin Centre Stars, a loss on the night.
The first opportunity came early for the Pack when the Stars went to the box for boarding. Mackenzie Ryckman got the puck deep to Eric Noseworthy who then fed Tyler Griffith hovering in front. Griffith made no mistake and secured the first goal of the night on the power-play. Andrew Just doubled the Husky tally minutes later, punching the disk upstairs on a feed from Griffith. The Stars answered with one of their own when a bobbling puck got by Jamie Rennick to make it a one-goal game. But the Dogs were hungry and re-established the spread when Brandon Tracey raced to the opposition net and beat the goalie unassisted. The Huskies continued pressing their hosts in the second period. With a man in the box for incidental head contact, the Husky penalty killers caught the Stars flat-footed. Canden Addley set up Owen Houle who’s shot on the deck beat the net-minder to tally the fourth Husky goal short-handed. The answering goal came with 3 seconds remaining on a bad bounce, letting the Dogs know that there was plenty of fight left in their hosts. To prove the point, they drew within one early in the third when the Husky defense broke down. It was a wake-up call for the visitors and the play became noticeably more physical. The Dogs were once again penalty killing and once again Addley was the set-up man allowing Tracey to secure the second short-handed goal of the night on a pad rebound. The Stars caught a break when Houle’s next effort was waved off but the Dogs were smelling blood. Just was working hard along the boards and found Noseworthy open. Noseworthy fed Griffith who beat the goalie on an upstairs shot to establish a commanding lead. The Stars mounted a furious series of attacks but the Husky defense had solidified and Rennick kept the door shut. The convincing 6 – 3 win was the Huskies seventh in a row and has earned them a slot in the A-pool post season. With only one regular season game remaining in Beverly on February 3, the Dogs look to continue their success on the road.
